Malaysia
Malaysia 2025 Part Four.
Our recent trip to Malaysia took us through a fascinating journey of contrasts, from the sleepy, colonial charm of Ipoh to the coastal heritage of Port Dickson, and finally to the bustling urban jungle of Kuala Lumpur City Centre (KLCC).
The Petrosains Discovery Centre
The Petrosains Discovery Centre in the Suria Centre (Level 4 of Suria KLCC) was recommended to us as a tourist attraction; however, when we arrived via the tunnel from the Suria Centre, it was busy with plenty of school children. Nonetheless, we channeled our inner child and joined in lots of games with the children, including air hockey in the interactive “SPARKZ” zone.
I particularly enjoyed the F1 racing simulator, a nod to Petronas’ involvement in Formula One, located in the “Speed” zone. Although mostly an educational centre for children (best to bring a child with you), we spent over an hour interacting with lots of school science type activities—like the “Geotime Diorama” with its singing dinosaur and the “Oil Platform” exhibit—to make it worth our while. And we had the best ice cream there for the whole of our trip in KL, likely the famous Sangkaya coconut ice cream served at the cafe inside.

The Aquaria KLCC
The Aquaria in KLCC is quite vast in how long it takes to work through the tanks. Not to be misunderstood as only fish, there are Asian small-clawed otters in “The Stream” zone, tarantulas and frogs in the “Jewels of the Jungle,” and much more. The endless tanks have a vast array of colourful fish, but we were never bored. The moon jellyfish in the “Station Aquarius” zone certainly looked awe-inspiring in their colourful tank.
The description boards are a little hit and miss, sometimes missing entirely. The highlight is the end with the 90-meter underwater tunnel with its own “walkalator” (travelator) moving you into a huge tank with Sand Tiger Sharks, massive stingrays, and Green Sea Turtles swimming above. My favorite ones, the seahorses, were a little disappointing compared to other aquariums, but the overall experience was memorable.

Landmarks & Atmosphere:
KLCC is a sensory overload of noise, smells, and traffic. The skyline is dominated by the Petronas Twin Towers and the KL Tower. From the 86th floor and the Sky Bridge, you get a stunning view of the city’s growth—gleaming skyscrapers towering over working-class bungalows and cemeteries below.
