Japanese Garden – a spiritual retreat
Japanese Garden in Newquay – a spiritual retreat.
The Japanese Garden is relatively small – about an acre – and being Japanese in its theme – narrowly defined – there is a limit to how much you see. Nonetheless, this is a different kind of garden – it feels like a labour of love for the small group of people who tend to it.
To genuinely be part of the Japanese Garden is actually to embrace the Buddhism it practices and use the time there to meditate, contemplate and reflect. We spent time there absorbing the sound of water, the chimes and birds. There are moments to sit such as in the Zen garden.
The garden is only one acre in size and focuses on traditional Japanese landscaping. As we slowly walked around we passed by the waterfall, the bamboo grove and the Japanese maple mountain. There are cherry blossoms, Japanese Wisteria, quince, Azaleas and rhododendrons flowering at different times in the year.
At the end of the garden is a well stocked koi pool. The maple trees were still green but will soon turn red for Autumn. The Japanese Garden is very much a spiritual retreat
