River Thames London
Cruising along the Thames.
By chance I was able to go cruising along the River Thames in London. With the Springtime blue skies the light was crisp enough for some photography.
A cruise along the Thames, includes a quality selection of London’s most famous sights, including the Houses of Parliament, the Millennium Eye, St Paul’s Cathedral, the Tower of London, Tower Bridge, Shakespeare’s Globe, the Shard, and more.
We took in a sightseeing Cruise from the Millennium Eye to Greenwich. Thee trip was about an hour.

Millennium Eye. We started on the South Bank near Westminster. It is impressive in how it is the world’s tallest cantilevered observation wheel, which, unlike a traditional Ferris wheel is supported only on one side by an A-frame,
This 135-metre-tall cantilevered observation wheel has 32 capsules that people like to do interesting things in, like propose to each other, is one of the UK’s most popular attractions, which, on a clear day, offers panoramic views across the City.
The City of London: also known as the Square Mile. The financial district has, despite the growth of Canary Wharf, gone from strength to strength.
To walk around the streets is to experience the historic cheek by jowl with the very modern.
With landmarks like St Paul’s Cathedral and its grand dome, the Bank of England there are the the more and more imaginatively designed skyscrapers like “The Gherkin” and “The Cheesegrater.”

Tower of London. Built in 1078 by William the Conqueror, this fortress has served as a royal palace, prison, and treasury.
The Tower has housed the Crown Jewels since the 17th Century. What is no longer there is a menagerie which included kangaroos and polar bears.
From the river you can see Traitor’s Gate, built in 13th Century, was originally a private entrance for royalty, before being used for prisoners accused of treason.
