Trerice Manor
An important manor -telling the story in Cornwall with wonderful staff to tell its story but there is not more to it than that.
Trerice Manor is an Elizabethan manor house located near Newquay. In terms of what is out there for manors across the country this one is for the reference book. It is relatively small, lacks its own furniture and does not have a particular selling point. Most of the surrounding land has been sold off and there is no such park to visit, only a potager.
Trerice Manor is what you expect – its key rooms are a great hall, a large bed chamber room and a long corridor. Whilst there are few rooms, a real effort has been made to preserve them – one is rebuilt. The sad fact is that most of the original furniture was sold off after World War Two.

It is a sixteenth century manor now managed by the National Trust. Its key features include remarkable ceilings specific to South West England. There are plenty Jacobean-style oak furniture, period textiles, and ceramics but the National Trust has bought these in to fill the rooms.r.
Most of the original surrounding land was originally sold off to tenanted farmers. What is left is a formal knot garden, an orchard with old fruit tree varieties and a portager garden – no landscaped park or lake..
Overall this is an underwhelming manor to visit but it has redeeming features for the South West of England in its special ceiling. A special mention to the staff dotted around the building who spoke at length about the history of the building bringing it to life.
