In 2022 I visited Penang. Due to the coronavirus the city was still effectively out of bounds to most foreigners. Having visited the city within the last five years I missed the buzz that tourism brought. Walking the streets of George Town I sensed a place that was rediscovering an old way of living before modern tourism had taken over. The street art may have lost an audience but it still gave the city its own authenticity.
