AI GPT war moves onto the web browser. It feels like we are now moving into the next phase of GPT, with the browser where the battle is now being played out. I suspect this will be where agents will gradually be introduced to the wider audience in the future.
Perplexity was in on the game early with Comet, Microsoft has CoPilot in browser form (if a little underwhelming), Google appear to be focused on embedding Gemini into their browser, and OpenAI ChatGPT Atlas has just been launched – but only for the Apple crowd so far. This does look like the beginning of the end of the traditional browser. Google have been successful because of their ‘Search’ strength.
But as we move from ‘searching’ the web to ‘asking’ a GPT, this could lead to disruption in current browser adoption. Who wins this new phase of browser could then win the phase after that with agents. Now we have Norton Neo.
The battle has only just begun. It’s a matter now if firstly if people can be persuaded to migrate to a new AI browser and secondly, which one?
